Cherry Danish

As an allergy mom, it is always hard to find great tasting replacements for bakery style goods that do not contain egg. When I found this recipe for danishes in an old Bisquick recipe book at my mom’s house a few years ago I was skeptical but very pleased when we tasted them. These eggless Cherry Danishes are so easy to make, and not only are they egg-free but by just swapping out the butter you can easily make them dairy-free as well. They have become a staple in our house for about the last decade.

The ingredients you need to make the Cherry Danish are, baking mix, softened butter, sugar, milk (I use plain unsweetened almond milk) and cherry preserves.


Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir until well combined. Using a large cookie scoop, scoop the dough onto a lined (or greased) cookie sheet. Only do about 6 per cookie sheet as they will spread.

Once you have your dough scooped out, take a spoon and dip it in water, then form a well in each of the danishes. This will create a place for the preserves to go.

Add about 1 teaspoon of cherry preserves to each danish. Now you are ready to bake these up! Just make sure your oven is at 450-degrees and bake them for about 10- 15 minutes. My oven only took 10 minutes.

While the danishes are baking you will need to quickly whip up the glaze. All you need is powdered sugar, water, and vanilla (I used clear vanilla to keep the icing white and not brown).  If the icing is too thin just add more powdered sugar until you get a consistency you like.

After the danishes are done baking drizzle the glaze over the top of each and you are done. These taste great warm or you can store them in the refrigerator…that is if any are left!

  • 2 cups baking mix I use Bisquick
  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2/3 cup almond milk can use any type of milk you desire
  • 1/4 cup cherry preserves or any other flavor you prefer
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp warm water
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla


  1. Heat oven to 450-degrees. Line cookie sheet with a baking mat or parchment paper. Mix baking mix, butter, sugar, and milk until dough forms 

  2. Using large scoop drop dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheet. Using the back side of a spoon dipped in water press center of dough to form a well in the center of each danish. Fill the well with 1 teaspoon of cherry preserves. 

  3. Bake 10-15 minutes until golden brown. While baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, water, and vanilla until smooth. When the danishes are done baking drizzle the glaze over each of them and serve.
